CBSL is led by Dr Mike Nicholds who has worked in the life science sector for over 25 years. He started his career as a microbiologist for ICI working in one of the first major UK centres of industrial biotechnology in the UK. After completing laboratory and production roles he commenced a commercial career progressing through product management, sales and marketing roles to senior commercial leadership and board level appointments in a range of international companies including Zeneca (now AstraZeneca), Chirex and Avecia.

More recently Mike has focused on leading life science start-up companies with a track-record of assessing spin-out opportunities, developing strategies and implementing business plans. Recently he has raised finance and invested in a new stem-cell technology company Newcells Biotech Ltd.

In his spare time Mike enjoys the great outdoors and can often be seen clinging to (and sometimes falling from!) cliffs in the Lake District and Derbyshire in summer and winter pursuing his passion for rock and ice climbing.
