[Solved] Continuity Camera Could Not Import Photos from iPhone

"I am in the supported app in MacOs Mojave and trying to take a photo from my iPhone to the notes app and I am getting a could not import picture and iPhone device timeout. After users upgraded to macOS Mojave, Continuity Camera "Could not import from iPhone. The device timed out" message has been mentioned most in Apple official community along with macOS Mojave upgrade error. It seems that the macOS Mojave Continuity Camera not working issue occurs everywhere (in Finder, in Notes, in Mail, etc) and on any platform (iPhone 15/14/13/iPhone 12/11 Pro (Max), iPhone X/XR/XS (Max), iPhone 8, MacBook Pro, iMac, etc), but few people find the right solution. Therefore, this article tries to gather all possible workarounds to help you solve macOS Mojave Continuity Camera could not import photos from iPhone to Mac error.

How to Solve macOS Mojave Continuity Camera Device Timed Out Error?


Continuity Camera on macOS Mojave is really a good option to instantly and wirelessly send iPhone photos to Mac. However, it seems that all new features from Apple are hard to escape bugs and needs time to fix. Now that Apple didn't give an official solution for Continuity Camera could not import photos from iPhone problem, you can try to tackle it by following the below suggestions.

1. Someone has spoken to the Apple guys and get the answer that macOS Mojave Continuity Camera not working is possibly an issue with iOS 12.1 beta. He tried the feature on his iOS 12 iPad, and it worked well. So, if your device is shipped with iOS 12.1 beta, you can try to downgrade to iOS 12 or upgrade to the newest iOS 13 to see if it works.

2. To make macOS Mojave Continuity Camera feature work normally, there are four basic requirements. First, make sure both Mac computer and iPhone is up to date. Second, assure that both your iPhone and Mac are connected to the same WiFi network. Third, ensure to enable Bluetooth on both devices. Last but not least, both your iPhone iPad and Mac need to be logged into the same Apple ID, otherwise macOS Mojave Continuity Camera won't work if the accounts are different.

3. To open the Camera app to take photos on iPhone, you'd better first unlock your iPhone before choose to "Import from iPhone or iPad" to Take Photo on your Mac.

4. macOS Mojave Continuity Camera function sometimes fails to work because of iCloud. You can try to sign out iCloud and sign in again on both platforms to solve Mojave Continuity not working.

Notice: After these solutions, you may still find that Continuity Camera "Could not import from iPhone, the device timed out" message occurs when you right-click and select "Import from iPhone or iPad" and select "Take Photo" to import iPhone photos to Mac. Maybe you have to wait for the official support from Apple, or alternatively try a third-party iPhone photo transfer tool DearMob iPhone Manager to transfer iPhone photos to Mac in batch or one by one.
